A BRIEF PROFILE OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY

The Central Library of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram plays a vital role as a knowledge hub for the undergraduate and postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members. It is structured to support the institute’s academic curricula and research initiatives through both physical and digital media.

The Central library started functioning in 2011. Situated in two floors at the Academic Block VII, the library houses a strengthened hybrid collection of resources of diverse genres serving the fraternity of the NIT Mizoram.

Central Library Collections at a Glance:

The Central Library, NIT Mizoram comprises a hybrid collection of physical as well as digital collection of Textbooks, e-Books, Reference books, Conference proceedings, Annual report, Magazines and non-book material such as CD-ROMS etc.

Physical Collection:
Major subjects including, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Economics, English, Management etc are listed in the collection.

2. E-Journals:
The Central Library has subscribed to 32 most popular journal databases which can be accessed through the ONOS (One nation One Subscription) as well as from the publishers. The Off-Campus Access service is provided to the faculty members to seamlessly access the electronic resources from outside the University campus with the Login Credentials shared only with the authorized users.

Central Library Services:

The Central Library offers comprehensive user services to maximise resource utilisation, thereby ensuring sustainability. The central library is automated with an open-source integrated library management software package “Koha”. The library collection has been created and is available through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to users via IP-based online access to these resources.

Barcode and RFID technology has been successfully installed to assist the circulation process as well as security of the library holdings. Various developmental steps have been implemented for modernization of the central library such as MOPAC- Mobile OPAC to aid the users.
