Department of Electrical Engineering
About the Department:
Electrical and Electronics Engineering was one of the first three disciplines in the B. Tech programme that had started in NIT Mizoram since July 2010, while it was functioning under the mentor Institute, VNIT, Nagpur. Presently the department offers B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD program. The B. Tech program was started in 2010 with an intake of 30 students and M.Tech program was started with an intake of 10 students offering specialization in Power Electronics and drives from 2016 onwards. Presently there are part time research scholars who have registered for PhD program. The department has 08 faculty members out of which two with Ph.D. and the remaining six are pursuing their Ph.D. registered in different premier Institutions in the country.
The Department aims to impart high quality education to the students and carry out fundamental and industry oriented research work. The research interest of faculties include various areas of Electrical engineering such as Soft computing application in Power System Control, Power Electronics & Machine Drives, Control System and Instrumentation, Non-conventional Energy system, High Voltage Engineering etc.
The department have well-equipped laboratory facilities for the students such as Electrical Machine Lab, Basic Electrical and Network lab, Power System Simulation Lab, Control & Instrumentation Lab, Power Electronics & Drives Lab are available with the department.

To impart quality education to our students and provide a comprehensive understanding of Electrical and Electronics engineering, built on a foundation of science, computing and technology.
To carryout research and consultancy activities for the enhancement of knowledge and the development of tools and technologies.
To educate a new generation of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to meet the future challenges.

"Ms. Sandhya Shalini, a final-year B.Tech student of NIT Mizoram, has brought laurels to the Institute by winning the First Prize in the International Olympic Day Painting Competition held on 30th June 2025 at NIT Mizoram. Her outstanding creativity and artistic expression were highly appreciated, showcasing the talent and excellence of NIT Mizoram students on an international platform."
"NIT Mizoram congratulates its third-year B.Tech students for their remarkable achievements in the Anti-Ragging Competitions organized on 14th August 2025. Mr. Ayush Raj secured the 2nd Prize in the Reels Competition, Mr. Abhishek Kumar won the 2nd Prize in the Slogan Competition, and Mr. Sarvesh Kumar Sharma achieved the 3rd Prize in the Speech Competition. Additionally, Mr. Abhishek Kumar and Mr. Sarvesh Kumar Sharma together bagged the 3rd Prize in the Drama Competition. Their active participation and success reflect the Institute’s commitment to fostering creativity, awareness, and responsibility among students in promoting a ragging-free campus."
