The Department of Mathematics is one of the pioneering departments of NIT Mizoram, equipped with a strongly motivated faculty. Mathematics, known as the queen of all sciences, plays an integral role in engineering courses. Recognizing the growing importance of Mathematics and Computing, the department has introduced a new B.Tech. Programme in Mathematics and Computing. This program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematical principles and their applications in computer science and related fields.
In addition to the B.Tech Programme, the department also offers a Ph.D. Programme in Mathematics. This program provides a platform for aspiring researchers to delve deeper into various mathematical domains and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field. The department's faculty members actively engage in research activities, collaborating with peers from other institutions and industries, to further enhance the academic and research environment.
With a focus on excellence in research and education, the Department of Mathematics strives to impart high-quality education to students and transform them into competent and motivated professionals. Prof. Ashis SenGupta from ISI Kolkata delivered an expert talk on "The Rise of AI in Statistical Machine Learning: Bliss or Blight" on 16 July 2025, highlighting recent advancements and applications. The session was well-attended and sparked insightful discussions among students and faculty.
Prof. Ashis SenGupta from ISI Kolkata delivered an expert talk on "Landslides in North-East India: Prediction and Early Detection prospects" on 18 July 2025, discussing causes, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies. The session was well-received by students and faculty, encouraging thoughtful discussion on geohazard management.
All the students of B.Tech.(M&C) second year got the internship offers from IIT Madras, IIT Tirupati, IIT Patna, IIIT Kurnool and NIT Patna.
